Happy Wednesday! An abandoned hamlet for sale in Spain, with 70 buildings to renovate!

What an exciting, massive project – a life’s work – a whole abandoned village with over 70 houses and structures, including a Romanesque chapel with bell tower – all for sale as a singular property to renovate. This feels like something truly meaningful to spend your life working on, pulling the buildings back from emptiness and creating your own utopia. It would take a lot of time and money to make it happen, but I feel like the sense of accomplishment must be extraordinary, if you could bring it back and fill it with life again.

From the listing on Rusticas Singulares:

Halfway between Villarcayo and Poza de la Sal, in the Burgos region of La Bureba, is this charming little town that was depopulated in the early 1980s. Its urban area is made up of about 70 houses of various sizes, many of them potentially recoverable, by keeping their structure in good condition; They are mostly buildings with limestone ashlar walls. In the upper neighborhood of the hamlet, the small church of Romanesque origin stands out, which currently preserves the apse and the presbytery, as well as its belfry bell tower. The neighborhood below is next to the Bárcena river and is surrounded by lush vegetation. The electricity and water supplies are very close to the urban complex, so it would be easy to take it to the buildings. Most of the buildings are part of a single property and were acquired jointly by their current owners for the development of a recovery project. The region of La Bureba is a privileged natural enclave of great historical interest: cradle of the first county of Castile, the region offers a multitude of cultural possibilities. Our little Bárcena de Bureba is a quiet town that deserves an opportunity to recover for its unique orography and for being a special witness of the passage of time through our wonderful rural world. Its strategic location, with excellent communications, is another of its attractions. The town is 2.7 km. from Abajas and 13 km. from Poza de la Sal; the capital is only 40 km away. away and Bilbao and 100 km.
