Happy New Year, Escapists! A cozy and bright Dutch village house, converted from a warehouse circa 1666!
This home is so light-filled, characterful, and cozy! I can certainly imagine being happy to live here, with the waterway in view. Perhaps I could hop in my kayak for my daily new years’ resolution work out, certainly a more entertaining option than yet another youtube yoga video. This home is located very close to the bustling town center of Leeuwarden, the capital of Friesland, but far enough to enjoy the peace of nature.
From the listing on Funda:
Under the smoke of Leeuwarden, in a beautiful place in the picturesque Snakkerburen, directly on the Dokkumer Ee you will find this characteristic house and former warehouse. Its unique location just outside the city with open waterways right in front of the door means you can enjoy the peace and quiet but the bustle of the city is within easy reach. This monumental house was completely rebuilt in 1998 while retaining all the characteristic elements of the former warehouse, but with all contemporary conveniences and amenities. The house is optimally insulated, partly equipped with underfloor heating and a water softener is also included. You can reach the house from both the front and the back, but the front door is officially on the side of the water. On the ground floor there is a living room with a wood-burning stove and a beautiful view over the Dokkumer Ee, a cozy kitchen, a utility room, the hall and a toilet. On the first floor, a lot of light enters on the landing through the large roof windows, and the skylight also provides fine light in the house (especially in the living room). The bedrooms are attractive and the bathroom is surprisingly large. From the terrace on the water you can endlessly watch boats or moor your own boat after a trip. Definitely worth a visit, you don’t come across a house like this in a beautiful location every day.
