Happy Thursday! Irish castle circa 1417 for sale! White Castle, in Athy, Kildare, Ireland, can be had for less than the price of a house in many cities, at only €450,000 ($498,127 approx).
Property details and history of the castle can be found on its website here:
The castle was built in 1417 by Sir John Talbot the Viceroy of Ireland to protect the newly built bridge over the River Barrow. Built into the wall on either side of the original doorway are two sculptured slabs indicating that the castle was previously owned by the Earl of Kildare, verified by his coat of arms to the right of the entrance doorway.
The castle has a total of 14 rooms and 3.500 sq feet of living space. An amazing example of Gothic architecture with arched doorways and some original slit windows that remain. It is set directly on the River Barrow and has amazing views of the surrounding area from the rooftop.
White castle was an occupied private residence up until 2005. The previous owner (2005 – 2012) installed a new roof and stripped the interior of the castle back to stone and plaster ready for further renovation. (per the listing here)
Can you imagine fitting it out and adding the final touches?
