Good Tuesday morning! I’m entranced by the remains of this grand, 18th century estate, set on 23 acres of private countryside in Poitou Charentes, France.
Looking at this property, I feel almost transported back to the time of Napoleon, with battles and horses and military strategies and intrigue. It feels to me like this house remembers it! Is that overly imaginative? What kinds of things do you think the bones of this house saw?
From the listing on Leggett:
From the private drive and through the gates, the house is set in 9.5 hectares of land which surrounds the property on all four sides, ensuring that it is not overlooked. The estate dates from the 17th Century, the current house is thought to have been built in the mid-18th Century.
In more detail:
Main house: set over two floors with 6 rooms per floor (there is a cellar below which will require renovation). The house has a new roof (2016) and parts of the windows back and front remain, together with examples of the original woodwork and plaster and stonework. The house has a mains water supply and electricity. Its architecture and dimensions are striking and once renovated this would be a delightful light and airy property.Outbuildings: The property benefits from a small chapel, a dove cote and several barns all of which can be renovated. They form a courtyard to the front of the house. To the rear of the house is a terrace leading to a walled garden.
Land: covering 9.5 hectares of private fields and woodland, there is also a small lake.
Location: The estate is minutes from St Jean d’Angély, a popular market town, with café’s, restaurants, shops and supermarkets, good train links and has just been designated a thermal spa town.
I want to buy it.. İf it is still available.
